  1. Moscow is the capital of RUSSIA. It is also 
  2. the biggest city in the country. More than
  3. eight million people live there. Moscow lies
  4. on a plain across the river Moskva. It is the
  5. largest industrial and business centre in the
  6. Russia. Moscow was first made the capital of
  7. Muscovy in 1547, during the reign of Ivan the
  8. terrible, the first Emporor of Russia. 
  9. It grew up around the KREMLIN, an ancient 
  10. fort from which the muscovy princes used to
  11. defend their country. Moscow remained the 
  12. capital of the tsars until 1712 when Peter
  13. the Great moved the capital to St.Peterburg.
  14. The city remained very important, even after
  15. it was nearly burnt down during the Napoleans
  16. occupation of 1812. After the revolution of
  17. 1917, Moscow became the seat of the soviet
  18. government. In 1992 it became the capital of
  19. Russia again.
